August 14th: Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse

So I guess I could be putting in a new category for everything, “Legends”.  But I’m not going to.  I’m 3 books away from being finished – Apocalypse to finish off the series, then the last X-Wing book, and then Crucible (haven’t read yet).  I’ve only read Mercy Kill once, so at least those 2 will be ones I’m not as familiar with.  I think I’ll continue posting when I read new books – I have high hopes for Tarkin coming out sometime here in the next few months.  I do have Rebels to watch as well – maybe I’ll post weekly after watching them?  Eh, probably not, that wasn’t the purpose of this blog (not that anyone reads it anyway lolz)

So everything’s coming to fruition.  Daala’s escaped, Vestara looks to be turning into a Jedi, the Jedi are setting their trap.  Definitely making Apocalypse tie together all the lose ends.  Sadly, I think I remember Apocalypse better than Ascension, as I remember the two major events that happen.

August 7th – Fate of the Jedi: Ascension

Well, Luke can be Grand Master, Daala’s free, Tahiri’s free, and Abeloth is teaming up with the Sith.  We’ve had 1 major death in Hamner, and well, I guess Callista/Akanah are the few minor deaths that well, I guess aren’t all that important.  It’s been a lot of journeying so far, and not a whole lot of crazy things happening.  Well, what happens on Klatooine is important in the scheme of things, but as far as the major story line Luke has flown around the galaxy and found some new sith, and Abeloth.  Need some things to start happening here in the last 2 books.

August 3rd – Fate of the Jedi: Conviction

Fate of the Jedi has been reading a little bit better than I thought it would.  I’ve been fine with the story so far, but seeing in Vortex that Abeloth is taking upon former loves of Luke (Callista and Akanah) is a little bit too much.  As much as I like the small worldness, I could see maybe one of them, but Akanah and the White Current adepts seem a bit too far stretched for me, based on how they have acted before.  Then again, they are kind of a welcoming bunch, but you wouldn’t expect them to be conned by Abeloth.  Unless Abeloth is that strong, which apparently she is.

July 23rd – Fate of the Jedi: Allies

So it’s a little weird reading about Jaden Korr in the last few books (was he in this one) when you know what happens in that little duology by Paul Kemp.  Also, I’ll have you know that years ago I wrote a short story in high school where I was chasing a person (I was a Jedi) and the person I was after was my clone.

Anyway, you keep seeing little things about Ben thinking “I could like Vestara”, but other than reading those, I don’t really get the sense that he’s that much into her really.  It’s a little weird.  Maybe there were 2 comments about him talking to Luke or thinking that she’s attractive, but that’s it.  I did enjoy reading about Dyon not being in tune with the Force enough to be a Jedi, but still having some Force augmented skills and doing well for the galaxy.

So on the back cover of Allies, it’s apparently Natasi Daala.  Well, she looks a little young there when she should be what, in her 60’s?

July 17th – Fate of the Jedi: Backlash

kind of feel like Mara and Anakin should have said a little bit more when Luke and Ben in the Lake of Apparitions.  Maybe that’s just how the dead are though?  Also, I’m surprised it took this long for the Mandalorians to get into things.  Other than those questioning thoughts I have, I have been enjoying this.

July 10th – Fate of the Jedi: Abyss

Well, Christie Golden’s first book wasn’t bad.  I wasn’t sure what to think of a few parts with Vestara and the book reading a little too kid-ish, but she was 14 at those few times.  So she does a good job writing to fit the characters age.  And also, this book was a little light on the pages.  I’m glad it read well, but I just have it in my head that novels should be 300-400 pages.

July 7th – Fate of the Jedi: Omen

Well, something is happening to the Jedi.  And the Baran Do Sages seem to know something is going on in the galaxy.  Guess there’s a bit of foreshadowing in there.  And it’s Karen Traviss out, Christie Golden in.  I think it’s sad that when Traviss goes out, the Mandalorians seem to be taking on a bigger role (without Boba Fett really mentioned at all).  Although they should be there already, as we read in Millennium Falcon, but not really seeing them at all so far.

July 1st – Fate of the Jedi: Outcast

So I need to go and correct pages read from my last post, and then come and fix this one.

I really enjoy Millennium Falcon.  James Luceno has some some good work for the Star Wars Universe, and it’s cool that he loves throwing his props to Brian Daley.  There’s nothing I really found to comment on that I don’t like etc, so this is a nice short post.  Thanks James, and I hope you get back into the EU some day.
